IIOM International Conference 2019

Managing the Cost of Obsolescence - Effective Obsolescence Management and Customer-Supplier Relationships Enable Obsolescence Risk to be Migrated and Reduced Through Life Costs

IIOM’s third International Conference, with the theme of Managing the Cost of Obsolescence, was held in London in June 2019, with more than 100 delegates from 15 countries attending. With a packed programme of 25 presentations in two days, there was something for everybody, whether expert or beginner, and the ratings given by the attendees to the presentations showed the quality of the programme and presenters.Conference presentations are available for delegates to download.

Presenters came from different sectors including aerospace, automotive, defence, industrial, oil and gas, and rail, as well as solution providers, and it was interesting to have the end user perspective from Lt Commander Christopher Bone of the Royal New Zealand Navy. The presentations explored traditional areas of obsolescence management such as electronic components, but also how to manage obsolescence at program or project level, and even where best to store components of different materials around the world.

With Germany and USA officially joining IIOM, and India on the way, it was great to have presenters from these countries, and there was interest from delegates in setting up chapters in other countries and regions.

Two workshops were held on the Tuesday before the conference, again well attended with fifty delegates altogether, and the Exhibition area, where the opening reception was held, featured stands from 13 companies, all of whom lots of interest in their products and services.

On Wednesday evening, ninety delegates went on the Elizabethan, a replica Missisipi paddle boat on the River Thames, for the Gala Dinner; the boat went down the river from Westminster Pier to Greenwich and the O2 arena, and returning after dark to see the spectacular London skyline lit up.

Thanks again to the UK organising committee and Cognition for organising and delivering the event, and to all the sponsors, especially Winslow Adaptics, the principal sponsor; the baton is now passed to IIOM Germany Chapter to organise IIOM 2021.
